20 Ways To Bring Positivity Into Your Life

Maintaining a positive mindset can be difficult. We are constantly faced with daily challenges that can drain any positive energy from within. Of course, feeling down and being a bit of a ‘Negative Nancy’ is normal from time to time. But, it is important that we don’t let these emotions dictate our lives. We need to try to integrate as much positivity into our daily lives as possible – and here’s how you can do just that!

Positive Self-Talk

Unfortunately, we often spend a lot of time putting ourselves down. With life’s daily pressures, it can be easy to tell ourselves that we are failing. So, in order to inject some positivity into your every day, it is crucial that we replace these negative and self-deprecating thoughts with positive affirmations. Life is always going to have its obstacles, and even though it can be hard to face them, you’re getting through it! Remind yourself that you are strong and able to handle anything that life throws at you.

Take Daily Mindful Walks

When life gets us down, we can tend to put our mental health on the backbench. In order to look after both your mental and physical health, try taking a daily walk. While on the walk, spend some time thinking about the things that you are grateful for and what makes you happy in life. Putting aside only 30 minutes a day for these mindful walks is an easy and effective way to bring some positivity into your life. Practicing mindfulness daily will remind you of all the good things that life brings your way.

Talk To Your Friends Every Day

Surrounding yourself with positive energy is extremely important. The more you embrace the relationships with the people that make you feel happy, the more positive you will feel. Take the time every day to catch up with your friends. Tell them how you are feeling, ask them how they are and engage in general chit-chat to boost your mood. This will also give you a break from the repetitive tasks and errands of an average day.

Appreciate The Little Things

All of us are guilty of forgetting to appreciate the little things in life more. By considering the day-to-day things that make you happy, positive energy will begin to blossom. So, next time you make your wake-me-up coffee in the morning – consciously appreciate it! The next time you finish a chapter of your book – smile about it! Stop passing by the little details of life that mean a lot more than you realise. Once you start to do this, you will find that positivity exists around you, in more ways than you thought!

Spread Positivity

It would be foolish to expect positivity in your life if you’re not spreading positivity yourself. Once you share kindness more often, you will begin to feel better about yourself. Knowing that you are making other people smile by emulating positive energy will no doubt make you feel good. So laugh, smile, uplift and good things will happen!

Create A Healthy Relationship With Work

Work is one of the main culprits of fuelling negativity. Pressure, deadlines and stress can be abundant in your average day at work which is why you need to adopt a healthy approach. Take breaks regularly in order to unwind, destress and recharge your mental battery. Remember that work is not the be all and end all of life.

Don’t Dwell On The Past

If you spend time dwelling on negativity and past mistakes, then you will never be able to progress! Dwelling on these things just attracts negative energy into your life – which is both unproductive and ineffective! Instead, make sure you give yourself the chance to move on, accept the past and hope and work towards better things in the future. It goes without saying that nothing in life is perfect. Once you learn to accept this, you will create a healthier mindset that will help you feel more positive.

Limit Time Spent On Your Phone

Sometimes, your phone can be your own worst enemy. Scrolling aimlessly through social media can lead to a cycle of comparison and self-criticism. People only post the highlights of their life on social media and it is so important to be mindful of this. Every day, create a time slot where you switch off your phone and put it away. Replace this time with something productive or with a hobby you enjoy. This way, you can prioritise the activities that make you feel good, rather than those that bring you down.  

Sing And Dance At Every Opportunity

This one is fairly straightforward. Singing and dancing and just having fun can make you feel positive instantly. So, have an impromptu dance party at any given opportunity. Sing in the shower, sing in the car, dance in your bedroom, play you favourite albums! When you learn to not take yourself too seriously all of the time, you will learn to love yourself exactly how you are. An easy way to implement positivity wherever you are!

Give Yourself Breaks

We all need a break from time to time. Whether you’re feeling run down or overwhelmed, it’s important to switch off and give your mind a rest. Every week, pencil in a day where you don’t do any kind of work. Use this day to recharge and prioritise your mental health. It is impossible to be 100% all of the time – so remember to give yourself well-deserved breaks.

Actively Seek Out The Positives In Negative Situations

There is usually a silver lining in every situation. It can seem impossible to seek out the positive in what seems like an overwhelmingly negative situation – but it is a good tool to creating a positive mindset. So, if you applied for a job and didn’t get it, consider the feedback you got and apply it to future scenarios. If you failed a test, find out where you went wrong and adapt your answers for the next time. Even if you simply burnt your toast, at least you know what setting to put it on the next morning!

Create A Proper Sleep Cycle

Getting a good night’s sleep is so much more important than we realise. Creating an adequate sleep cycle is vital for your mental health. When you get enough sleep, you feel energised and motivated for the day ahead. So, try to wind down at the same time every night and set your alarm in the morning. Avoid hitting the snooze button as this will only make you feel sleepier. Setting your alarm early in the morning will set you up for a productive and positive day!

Be Present

Nowadays, we spend too much time worrying about the future. If we’re not doing that, then the chances are that our heads are down staring at our phones. To be a positive person, you must aim to be present at any given moment. Take the time to appreciate your surroundings, embrace the people around you and live in the moment as much as you can.

Discover Things That Inspire You

When you need a little bit of a pick me up, think about the things that motivate you. Whether that be a certain song that makes you feel good or a friend who can cheer you up in an instant – try to remind yourself of the things that make you feel positive.

Create A Weekly Schedule

When your life feels orderly, you will instantly feel calmer and more in control. Creating a weekly timetable that consists of work but also carves out plenty of time for relaxation is essential for being able to feel positive. Once you are able to juggle a work-life balance, you will always have out-of-work things to look forward to. It is easy to let work overtake your life, and by allocating time for other activities, this will allow you to break up an otherwise monotonous week.


When you write down your thoughts, you enable yourself to understand how you are feeling. If you have had a great day – write about it to reinforce those positive emotions! Reflecting on the things that have made you happy will remind you what life is really all about. Whether you invest in a gratitude journal or a page-a-day journal – you will feel amazing after releasing your innermost thoughts!

Tidy Your Space

If you’re anything like me, then tidying and decluttering is the first step to feeling positive. The satisfaction I get after organising my space is like no other (sad, I know…but true!). Getting a task done that has been on your to-do list for a while will instantly give you a little boost. Blast out your favourite tunes and get tidying!

Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

In this day and age, it can be easy to constantly compare yourself to others. We are bombarded with posts of picture-perfect lives and distorted realities. You have to remember that you are doing AMAZING! Not everything is as it seems, and you are better than you think. Comparison is truly the thief of joy and undermines all your efforts and achievements!

Treat Yourself

When you are feeling a bit down in the dumps, sometimes the answer is retail therapy. Is there something on your wish list that you’ve been desperate to get? Buy it – you deserve it! If you don’t feel like spending money, treat yourself by baking a new recipe with ingredients you have in the kitchen. Reward yourself with things that lighten up your day and remind yourself that you are worthy of being treated!

Love Yourself

Although this can take some time, loving yourself with every inch of your body is the best way to reach contentment. Know that you are a unique, worthy and wonderful individual. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are any less!
