5 Reasons The Scottsdale Plaza Resort Is A Dream Wedding Destination

by Ceylan Kumbarji

Nestled amongst the beautiful landscape of Arizona, you’ll find the dreamy Scottsdale Plaza Resort. With mountains and desert scenery surrounding it, this oasis prides itself on being an ‘authentically Arizona experience’. A stunning place to stay, the resort has been celebrating newlyweds for over 40 years and now known for hosting weddings all year round, they have one every weekend. Here are 5 reasons why this spot is a top wedding destination, and the perfect place for your special day.

1. The Choice Of Space

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort has a number of versatile, easily customisable options to pick from. With over 50,000 square feet of flexible event space, the options are endless so it’s easy to make the place your own. Starting outdoors, there’s the Plaza Lawn. This is the main outdoor space for the ceremonies and it’s a lush venue in an intimate area, surrounded by vibrant flowers and trees. Next, there’s Cypress Court. Right in the heart of the resort, this spot can seat up to 450 people for a wedding reception or fit 900 people for a cocktail reception, offering stunning views of Mummy Mountain. It’s got a more rustic feel to it and consists of Portofino lights, fire pits and everything from palm trees to prickly pear cactus.

For indoor/outdoor spaces, the venue has two choices. There’s Camelback Vista, which isn’t physically connected to the hotel, so it’s got the perks of a resort but also the privacy of a freestanding event space. It has a Tuscan atmosphere and features fireplaces, multiple outdoor patios and incredible views of Camelback Mountain. The other indoor/outdoor space option is the Terezza, providing elevated ceremony site with twinkle lights inside, and an outdoor patio for the ultimate romantic setting. Indoor only spaces can also be found at The Scottsdale Plaza Resort, just as magical as the outdoor spaces. The Grande Ballroom offers elegant, flexible space and is the ideal option for all seasons, with an additional foyer for cocktail receptions and after hours festivities. There’s also La Valencia, a pretty indoor spot for smaller, more personal gatherings. The venue fee is $2,500 ($2,000 if you opt for one of their preferred Wedding Consultants), and includes your choice of one location for the ceremony and one for the reception.

2. The Versatility Of The Resort: A Totally Unique Experience In Every Way

“Unique is the word we hear a lot. People don’t want their wedding pictures to look like their friends wedding that they were at last week, they want to do something different. So, that’s one of the perks of our spaces. You can be on our property and have different looks just depending on where we go,” Weddings and Special Events Manager, Kate Gallagher, explains. With the style of the wedding you can opt for modern romantic, rustic or any other theme. “When we’re initially talking, I like to get an idea for what her vision is. If she’s more into that romantic style, the garden fits. This is the main space for wedding ceremonies and we’ve intentionally left it a blank canvas.” You can customise each part of the wedding to make it really unique, whatever your budget for the day is. For example, having a teepee as the focal point for an outdoor wedding or having lawn games like a giant Connect Four, means the weddings can be more playful and people can really make it their own.

3. They Specialise In Intimate, Destination Weddings

Hosting a range of wedding party sizes from 2 to 250, the Scottsdale Plaza Resort know a thing or two about how best to utilise the spaces at their property, depending on what each individual wants. For people going down the non-traditional route, there’s a number of things they can do if they’re looking to have a more cosy wedding. Although they can host hundreds of people in some of their spaces, they also want to break down the idea that with a resort you have to have 100 people or more, and a huge budget. “We do a lot with people who are eloping or people who don’t want a traditional wedding. They want to have friends in, maybe a dinner by the pool, and something a bit more simple,” Kate explains.

4. A Helping Hand For Everything You Need To Make Your Day Run Smoothly

For all of your needs and requirements, as soon as the process begins the wedding manager is there to help, assisting with every small detail to ensure the big day is just right. “We’re a very hands-on property, so we’re able to offer upgrades and introduce people to vendors,” Kate says. This personal touch is such an important part of what makes The Scottsdale Plaza Resort special. Within the wedding fee is the set-up, tables, chairs, linens, glassware and a range of other things you’ll need for the day. A bridal suite for preparation and an overnight stay for the couple in one of their beautiful suites is also included. For anything else, the resort have a preferred wedding vendor list that they partner with, so it’s easy to find someone to bring your wedding dreams to a reality for anything the resort can’t do in-house. With wedding consultants for the big design stuff, photographers to capture the memories and florists to create the perfect bouquets and table settings, you can trust that all the bases will be covered, taking the stress out of your day.

5. A Dreamy Location In A Stunning Place

With Spanish Mission-inspired architecture and fragrant gardens filled with desert flowers and views of both Camelback and Mummy Mountain, it’s a stunning palm-lined retreat. The resort offers a range of experiences and styles of accommodation, and from their comfortable guest rooms to the private lodges on their grounds, there’s something suitable for everyone. There’s also has a spa, tennis courts, a 24 hour fitness centre and five swimming pools, so there’s plenty to do without leaving the resort. Although their peak season is October to May, they host weddings all year round, so depending on the season there are a range of things happening in Arizona. Close to Old Town Scottsdale (hailed “a desert version of Miami’s South Beach” by the New York Times), Camelback and Talking Stick Resort, there’s plenty to see. A complimentary shuttle to Fashion Square, Old Town Scottsdale and Talking Stick makes it easy to get around and explore. With locals and destination brides alike opting to come here for their special day, the location of The Scottsdale Plaza Resort is a big deciding factor and adds to the unique, customisable element of the wedding.
