We are always searching for new ways to reinvent our image, change our space and our surroundings and come up with new ideas and ways to do things. In this modern life, we are constantly surrounded by advertising and media trying to sell us things that we truly do not need. By using the old Chinese idea of feng shui, we can rejuvenate and change our own space without having to purchase new items to do this. This minimalist design method can provide a clear, fresh space and a change of scenery for those of us who are always on the move but might be stuck in a rut right now.

Feng Shui is a technique for rearranging your surroundings in harmony and balance with the natural world and auras around you.

In Chinese, the words Feng Shui literally means “wind and water.” This is a practical approach to changing your atmosphere that the Chinese have followed for many years, and it allows you to use what you already have in order to strive further towards what you want to acquire to bring good vibes and chakra into your life.

In association with a minimalist approach to living, the first step towards good feng shui practice is to get rid of all the clutter and useless things trailing around your house that is taking up unnecessary space. Clutter clearing is a time and energy-consuming process that might feel like therapy, but it will help you “lighten up the load,” so to speak. Clearing all the clutter is an essential step to feng shui because it starts the energy rebalance in your home and personal space, allowing you to clear your mind of clutter too.

There are no doubts about it, living in a home filled with clutter can be incredibly overwhelming. Not only is clutter incredibly distracting but it can also start to accumulate dust and dirt very quickly, and this can have a huge impact on the cleanliness of your home. A friend of mine who is a landlord in Chicago recently had to have one of her properties deep cleaned by a team of Chicago move out cleaners after the previous tenants abandoned the property but left all of their clutter behind. Her old tenants left so much stuff in her house when they moved out I could not believe what I was seeing. It was such a mess. But, I have to say that the cleaning team did an absolutely fantastic job of getting her property looking clean and tidy again.

Anyway, good feng shui energy is called chi and chi is essential to the balance of good energy throughout your home. Two elements that are very important to your chi balance are light and air. By having a lot of natural light or just light-colored blinds on your windows, you rely less on heavy lamps or overhead lights that hurt your eyes. With this being said, there are a great range of affordable floor lamps that can be added to any room in the house. It is the intensity of the bulb that makes a difference to the overall atmosphere. A white light may be something worth considering, as it will not overpower everything else and emulates natural lighting, which is what you want for good feng shui within the home.

As for air, having pure air generating plants like small bonsai trees or flowers will help this element. A filterless air purifier is also an extremely beneficial thing to have in your main living space.

Chi can also be helped by readjusting the position of your furniture, such as your bed, your desk or your sofas in the living room. This alone will make you feel like a new person in a new space, even though all you did was redesign the layout of your current space. If you are looking to make changes in your environment, some people may find that this is the right time to add something like simple shapes wallpapers to their walls, just to switch things up a little. It all about making changes, in the hopes of creating better energy in your environment.

Feng shui can be very beneficial in your life, not just for the decluttering purposes, but helping to decrease your stress levels and increase positive energy levels. You can start small by just cleaning out your wardrobe and donating all the old clothes you no longer wear, or cleaning out all of the unhealthy foods in your kitchen and donating those to a food shelter. Furthermore, if you have large items of furniture that you do not need right now but may need access to in the future, you could consider using Sydney Storage Units like those offered by Holloway Storage or find something similar wherever you are. The improvement in floor space will feel therapeutic. Feng shui can benefit more people than you think and it is all about going for the minimalist approach, removing anything that does not serve you a purpose.
